Books can really change the way kids see the world, opening our minds and encouraging us to dream big. And, on those pages lie lessons and quotes we could do well to remember as we grow from girls to young women.
Here are some of my favourites.
“Promise me you’ll remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you’ll ever know.” Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne
“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.”
Matilda by Roald Dahl
“Listen to the mustn’ts child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the don’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me…. anything can happen, child. Anything can be.”
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
“Words can be worrisome, people complex, motives and manners unclear. Grant her the wisdom to choose her path right, free from unkindness and fear.”
Blueberry Girl by Neil Gaiman
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship.”
Little Women by Louise May Alcott
“It doesn’t happen all at once,” he said. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re own your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”
Oh The Places You’ll Go by Dr Seuss
“Oh, it’s delightful to have ambitions. I’m so glad I have such a lot. And there never seems to be any end to them–that’s the best of it. Just as soon as you attain to one ambition, you see another one glittering higher up still. It does make life so interesting.”
Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery
“Some journeys take us far from home. Some adventures lead us to our destiny.”
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
by C.S LEWIS
“So many things are possible just as long as you don’t know they’re impossible.”
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
“The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid.”
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Braum
At Tease and Totes, we are passionate about letting all girls have access to books and that’s why we partnered with Worldreader to create the GIRL POWER t-shirt. All proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts goes to the non-profit ~ on a mission to bring digital books to every child and her family to improve their lives.
